Abstract

I will describe the implementation of an undergraduate bio-medical physics program at Loyola University Maryland, USA. As part of this program, called a “minor,” there are two intermediate-level physics courses designed for the student who has completed .5-1 year of introductory physics and calculus I. To augment existing commercial and academic teaching materials, we obtained a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop active-learning curriculum materials on fiber optics in medicine, pressure in the human body associated with the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and nuclear medicine particularly the gamma camera. In the process of developing these courses, some of the topics were expanded for the advanced lab targeted at senior physics majors. Questions and discussion are welcome throughout this presentation.
